Most antimicrobial protection is something you add to a finished surface. An antimicrobial plastic additive works the other way round: the protection goes into the material while the part is still being made, so it is part of the product rather than a layer sitting on top of it. That is exactly what VireXbuster 4Bulk is designed to do.

Coating a surface vs. building protection into the material

A sprayable coating is the right answer for surfaces that already exist — door handles, desks, handrails, HVAC ducts. But if you are the one manufacturing the part, you have a better option available at the production stage.

With an antimicrobial plastic additive, the active protection is distributed through the polymer matrix itself. There is no coating film to scuff off at the edges, no re-application schedule for the moulded part, and no change to how the finished item looks or feels. The protection is simply where the material is.

How VireXbuster 4Bulk fits into production

Mixed with the pellets, not applied afterwards

VireXbuster 4Bulk is a powder additive that is dosed in with plastic pellets during extrusion or injection moulding. For most manufacturers this means no new equipment and no separate process step — it joins the existing compounding stage.

Stable at real processing temperatures

Plastics processing is hot. VireXbuster 4Bulk is formulated to remain stable up to 300 °C, which covers the working range of the great majority of commodity and engineering thermoplastics, so the protection survives the process that creates the part.

It does not change your product

The additive is engineered not to compromise the mechanical or aesthetic properties of the finished item, and it is free of nano-materials. Your part keeps its colour, its surface finish and its spec sheet.

What VireXbuster 4Bulk protects against

VireXbuster 4Bulk carries the same hybrid formulation as the rest of the VireXbuster range: a hybrid formulation with a very wide spectrum of activity against virus, bacteria, fungi, mold, and mildew. Because the protection is embedded rather than applied, it is built to last for years of the product’s service life, indoors and outdoors.

Where manufacturers use it

An antimicrobial plastic additive earns its place wherever a moulded part is touched often, cleaned often, or lives somewhere damp:

  • Healthcare and laboratory plastics — trays, housings, trolleys, equipment casings
  • Public and transport interiors — seating, grab handles, panels, ticketing hardware
  • Food handling and hospitality — crates, containers, service fittings
  • Sanitary and washroom fittings, where damp conditions invite mold and mildew
  • Polymer floors — poured and cast polymer flooring systems for clinics, kitchens and production halls
  • Outdoor plastic components exposed to weather and humidity

A note on polymer floors

Polymer flooring is one of the clearest cases for an additive rather than a coating. A floor takes constant abrasion, cleaning chemicals and foot traffic — the worst possible life for a thin surface film. Blending VireXbuster 4Bulk into the polymer floor system puts the protection through the full depth of the material instead of on top of it. (For walls and ceilings, the right product is VireXbuster Wall, which is a paint and is not intended for floors.)

Certification and documentation

VireXbuster is BAuA approved (German Federal Institute for Occupational Safety and Health), Fraunhofer tested, QualityLabs certified as antimicrobial, and Dermatest certified "Excellent" for dermatological safety. In the United States, this category of product is classified by the EPA as a Supplemental Residual Antimicrobial Product (SRAP). Frequently asked questions

Can VireXbuster 4Bulk be sprayed onto an existing plastic surface?

No — 4Bulk is a manufacturing additive, not a surface product. It is mixed into the polymer during production. For surfaces that already exist, use VireXbuster Spray instead.

Does the additive change the colour or strength of the finished part?

It is designed not to. VireXbuster 4Bulk integrates into the plastic matrix without compromising the mechanical or aesthetic properties of the final product, and it contains no nano-materials.

How long does the protection last in a moulded part?

Because the protection is embedded in the material rather than applied to its surface, it is built to remain active for years of the part’s service life, including in demanding indoor and outdoor conditions.
